If you’ve been dreaming of learning to kitesurf, chances are you’ve already seen videos of turquoise lagoons and riders flying across glassy water. What you might not see is what makes those sessions possible—good instruction, the right location, and solid safety.
At Riah Kite Academy in El Gouna, we don’t just teach people to ride—we teach them to ride independently and safely, following the International Kiteboarding Organization (IKO)’s globally recognized standards.
So what makes El Gouna such a good place to learn? And how does learning with an IKO school like Riah make all the difference? Let’s break it down.
Consistent Wind, Shallow Lagoons and Warm Water
El Gouna is purpose-built for kitesurfing. Located on Egypt’s Red Sea coast, it offers reliable side-onshore wind from March to November, making it one of the most dependable spots in the world for beginners.
Our lagoons are shallow, calm, and sand-bottomed—so even if you fall, you can simply stand up and try again. These forgiving conditions massively reduce learning time and keep the stoke high. Flat water means faster progress. Warm water means no wetsuit. Shallow depth means no fear.
The combination of consistent weather and beginner-friendly terrain means fewer surprises. No shore break, no strong currents, no offshore winds, no hidden rocks. It’s a true kitesurfing haven—especially for those just starting out.
Kitesurfing can be dangerous if it’s not taught properly. That’s why the IKO created a globally recognized training system to standardize safety, instruction, and certification across the world. At Riah Kite Academy, we follow the IKO curriculum from your first steps on the beach to your first rides upwind—and beyond.
March to May:
Mild air, warm water, and consistent wind. A golden season for beginners and progress.
June to August:
Hot, sunny, and windy. You’ll need a hat and sunscreen, but the riding is amazing.
September to November:
The perfect “shoulder season.” Still warm with excellent wind.
December to February:
Quieter and cooler, but still ridable. Some beginners prefer the peace and serenity of winter sessions. Off-peak hotel pricing is easier on the pocket!
At Riah, we’re open year-round—so no matter when you arrive, we’ll make sure your lessons fit the conditions and your goals.
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to level up your skills, Riah is the place to do it.
