Kitesurfing

In 1977 a Dutch surfer called Gijsbertus Adrianus Panhuise was the first man to patent a sport that we know today as kitesurfing, an exciting water sport that involves riding on a board while being propelled by a kite. It’s a popular activity for thrill-seekers and those who love being out on the water. To get started, kitesurfers use a kite to harness the power of the wind and propel themselves across the water. The kite is attached to the rider with a harness, which allows them to control the kite and steer the board.

Kitesurfing can be a challenging sport to learn, but with the right instruction and practice, anyone can become proficient. It’s important to receive proper training and use the correct equipment, including a kite, board, harness, and safety gear, to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Kite foiling?

Kite foiling is a growing discipline in kitesurfing, involving a hydrofoil attached to a board that lifts riders above the water, reducing drag for faster and smoother rides. Using wind power, riders balance on the board to control the kite and lift the foil. It’s ideal for lighter wind conditions and offers a new challenge to enthusiasts. With our tailored lessons and experienced instructors, anyone can master kite foiling and enjoy an exhilarating water experience.

      • If you’re completely new to kitesurfing this is the course for you. Our beginner course is structured to teach you how to practice the basic fundamentals of kitesurfing in a hassle-free, safe, shallow water environment, where you will learn basic controls and various safety rules, including:

        • Kite theory (wind window)
        • Equipment setup
        • Safety systems use & safety steps
        • Launching and landing of the kite
        • First piloting and exploring the wind window edge
        • Water start / Relaunch the kite
        • First body-drag
        • Self -rescue

        Objective

        The aim of the Newbie course is to get you comfortable controlling the kite, to understand the kite safety features, to learn about wind conditions and how to set-up the equipment correctly before you start. By the end of the lesson you will be using the kite to pull you through the water with your board to get a feeling of the kite, allowing you to work on your control techniques. We call this body-drag.

      • Arrive at Riah Kite Academy reception to check in with our reception team at 9am, if not specified otherwise. Once you have checked-in and signed an indemnity form our reception team will give you a spot briefing so you understand the rules of our lagoon. Then you’re ready to go. You will be introduced to your instructor, who will help you put on the necessary gear, and the lesson will begin.

        Get ready for an unforgettable 6 hours of kitesurfing lessons with an IKO certified instructor at one of the best destinations in the world to learn kitesurfing.

      • After you have completed your theory, for conditions to be suitable we will require a minimum of 12 knots wind speed. Our Riah Kite Academy reception team will contact you the day before your booking to keep you updated regarding conditions and starting times.

        If Mother Nature doesn’t wave her magic wand and the wind conditions are weak, don’t worry. Our reception team will be in touch to reschedule for the next available time slot.         • Well done. You have completed the Newbie phase and now you’re ready to level up your skills with our Intermediate Course. On this course, your IKO Instructor will show you how to:

          • Master the water start
          • Ride upwind
          • Controlled stop
          • Control speed by edging
          • Sliding transition
          • Ride toe-side
          • First small jumps

          Objective

          The aim of this course is to get you to a level where you can ride independently, and if you progress well, even learn a few tricks like your first jump. It’s time to become an independent rider, and the more you learn, the more passionate you will become about kiteboarding! As an independent rider, you will be awarded an IKO certificate and you’ll be able to ride on your own and rent equipment wherever you go.

        • If you have already completed the beginner course with us on the same holiday, then there is no need to check-in again. Just pass by reception and our team will assign you a time slot so you can continue your progression with your instructor.

              • Kitesurfing is an exhilarating and exciting sport, but it can be intimidating for beginners. A refresher kitesurfing course can help you remember and learn more of the basics, in a supportive and encouraging environment. Our refresher courses are designed for experienced kitesurfers, who have previously completed their lessons, but need to brush up on their skills. You will cover:

                • In-depth safety briefing
                • Review basic and advanced kite flying techniques
                • Launching/landing and steering the kite
                • Controlled water and beach relaunches
                • Practice body-dragging
                • Kiting upwind left and right
                • Review of advanced techniques: transitions, edging, powered jumps, and advanced turns (if you have completed these techniques before)

In just 30 minutes, our experienced instructors evaluate your proficiency to ensure you can kite without assistance.

                    Objective

                    The aim of the level assessment is to ensure you have adequate training to kite alone. If our assessment reveals that you require additional instruction or practice to reach a level of independence, we will ask you to take lessons from our certified instructors. These lessons will provide you with the necessary skills and knowledge to kitesurf confidently and responsibly.

                Wonderful chilled ambiance

                Spent the afternoon with the kids. Wonderful chilled ambiance, attentive staff and great food. My daughter loved her mocktail as well 🙂 definitely a great place to hang out even if you’re not a kiter. Already a big fan of their pizza and Riah will definitely become our favorite hang out place in El Gouna.

                Greatest kitesurfing spot in Elgouna. Highly recommend for beginner, professional riders that would like to improve their skills, shallow Long Beach and really wide that can accommodate many kiters with very safe distance in between riders. Looking forward for next ride.
